de Young? Delovely.

For those heading west this summer, take note that San Francisco is where it’s at on the Left Coast. Whether it’s sizzling rice soup at House of Nanking on Kearny or the swanky digs at the St. Francis, SF is just infinitely cooler than its initialed sister to the south. Particularly of note in that City by the Bay are the current and near-future offerings of Golden Gate Park’s de Young Museum.
Until September 28th, master glassblower Dale Chihuly’s mindblowing creations will be on display. Pure visual candy, the eye patch-wearing impresario’s whimsical creations have popped up all over the globe and are getting the royal treatment at the de Young. Just a month later, the museum will exhibit Maya Lin’s beautiful Systematic Landscapes exhibition, rife with eloquent takes on topography and topology. And come November, the de Young will be the place to check out the Yves Saint Laurent retrospective featuring 120 accessorized outfits spanning four themes and 40 years.
