Poori in the Park

Tabla Street Cart // 11 Madison Ave., at 25th St.

Pretzels, hot dogs, pretzels, falafel, pretzels.

The world of the New York City food truck can seem rather limiting. Enter: the Tabla Street Cart, the new kid on the block (literally), courtesy of restauranteur extraordinaire (and St. Louis native) Danny Meyer. Just off the lovely Madison Square Park and directly in front of USHG’s deliriously delicious stylized Indian gem, the Tabla Street Cart is sure to give Meyer’s Madison Square staple, Shake Shack, a run for its lunch hour money.

The choices are few, but the chicken tikka roti roll is wonderful afternoon fare and the pomegranate-infused limeade adds a tart kick to your meal. One can only hope that the options expand to include Tabla’s pulled lamb and mustard mashed potato “naanini” or some of the Bread Bar’s carb-ier offerings, but for now, revel in the fact that there’s no such thing as a lunchtime table wait the rest of this sweltering summer.
